Pirelli Tires Develops Environmentally Friendly SUV Tire
Pirelli tires is introducing its latest tire, the Scorpion Verde SUV, at the Indiana International Testing Circuit in Barcelona. The Scorpion Verde is a high performance eco-conscious SUV tire designed for increased fuel efficiency.
According to Pirelli, the Scorpion Verde is “the first high-performance eco tire for vehicles with the highest environmental impact – SUVs and crossovers.”
The Scorpion Verde’s composition solely includes aromatic oil-free materials and decreases fuel consumption by up to 3.9 percent (urban cycle) or 3.4 percent (combined cycle). The tire also reduces acoustic emissions by 30 percent, while promising to ensure uniform tread wear and an increased lifespan.
Pirelli’s new SUV offering will also deliver a 20 percent decrease in rolling resistance, is lighter and uses 10 percent fewer raw materials, offering a higher level of environmental protection.
The Scorpion Verde features new technologies, including nano-filler particles, a polymer structure that allows the tire to adapt to the driving conditions and hybrid fibers, which combine a wide variety of materials. The tires tread pattern uses 4 deep longitudinal grooves for a higher level of driving safety on wet roads. The tire is constructed of compounds engineered to achieve greater grip on wet surfaces and features reinforced shoulders that increase lateral grip on all asphalt conditions.
