Drive & Learn

Last Thursday I attended the Bridgestone Drive & Learn even outside of Washington, DC. This was my first ride and drive so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. All I knew was you can give the cars hell.

The event was set up to compare tires from Bridgestone tires high performance line. Our goal was to drive hard to test the performance characteristics of the tires.

I was pretty psyched when I found out we were testing the tires on BMW 328I’s. Under the guidance of a professional instructor, we got to drive the BMW’s as hard and as fast we could for several laps on a wet road course. Needless to say, it was awesome. Even though the car probably never got above 35 mph or 40 mph, it felt like you were hauling.

The BMW’s were equipped with Bridgestone Insignia SE200’s, Potenza G019 Grid’s, Potenza RE960AS Pole Position’s, Potenza RE760 Sport’s and Potenza RE11’s. We drove the course on each set of tires to get a feel for the handling and traction.

The event wasn’t all about driving. It also featured a training session for tires sales professionals about Bridgestone’s high performance tires and their new fuel saving Ecopia line. The session was pretty informative and will definitely help me when talking to customers about Bridgestone tires.

At the Drive & Learn events, Bridgestone also sponsors the Driver’s Edge National Tour, which is a free program to help teens become safer behind the wheel. This great program features an informational session and the chance to drive with the professional instructors from the Drive & Learn event. Check out DriversEdge.org to find out more information.

If you ever get the chance to participate in a Drive & Learn event, I highly recommend it.

Be sure to stay tuned for my videos from the track.
