Pirelli Tires, founded in Milan, Italy, began as a small rubber manufacturing company in 1872. In the late 1800s, Pirelli started manufacturing tires and by 1901, Pirelli’s first passenger tire, the Ercole, was outfitting automobiles. During the last century, Pirelli has become the world’s fifth largest tire manufacturer and one of the most profitable in the industry.
Pirelli manufactures tires for a variety of applications including, cars and light trucks, motorcycles, buses, trucks, agricultural and earthmoving equipment. Pirelli is the world leader in both original equipment and aftermarket high performance tires. By focusing on the high-end performance market, Pirelli has built a reputation as a go to for quality, ultimate performance tires.
In 1974, Pirelli produced the first wide radial tire designed specifically for racing. The tire featured a reduced sidewall height like a racing slick, but had a radial structure. Pirelli’s wide radials are still the standard for sport and racing cars. Pirelli is also involved in various global racing circuits. Pirelli is sole supplier to the British Superbike Championship.
