What are these red and yellow dots on my tires?

What are these red and yellow dots on my tires?

That’s a question we often at tireteam.com. Believe it or note, those polka dots you see serve a very important purpose when it comes to mounting and balancing your tires. These markers help our tireteam.com certified installers find high spots, low spots and light points on tires. Proper adjustments are then made to make sure your tire is balanced correctly.

According to Bridgestone, “The difference between the high and low is called radial runout. By using detailed computer analysis, engineers have found that a graph of the force variations looks a bit like a wave, as does a graph of the runout variations.

By simplifying these graphs to what is called their “first harmonic,” it is now possible to find the place on the tire where, on average, the force variation is the greatest. That’s where the first harmonic curve hits ...[more]

Its that time of the year to start thinking about winter tires!

October 12th, 2012

Winter is fast approaching! Make sure to keep your vehicle riding safely and smoothly with a set of snow or winter tires. Many people who live in colder climates think that purchasing all-season tires is good enough. Think of it this way, if an all-season tire is a tennis shoe then a snow tire is a heavy duty winter boot.

When temperatures drop it becomes harder for rubber to conform to the surface of the road. Winter or snow tires are made of a softer rubber, allowing them better flexibility in colder climates. This enhanced flexibility allows them to better grip the road whereas a regular tire would turn hard and brittle in the colder temperatures.

Vehicle technology like antilock brakes and all-wheel drive won’t help if your tire can’t keep a solid grip on the road; consider purchasing a set of winter tires from Tireteam.com! Not sure which tire is right for you? Give us a call at 1-888-847-3832 and one of our tire experts can gladly help sele ...[more]

Can TPMS be hacked?

September 15th, 2010

I stumbled upon this and found it to be quite interesting.

http://www.moderntiredealer.com/Blog/B-O-B/Story/2010/09/Fear-not-Wireless-car-hacking-through-the-TPMS-is-extremely-unlikely.aspx

The question was raised by a joint study between the University of South Carolina and Rutgers University as whether Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems could be compromised by hackers. The potential seemed to be more of nuisance value but they did raise the questions of being able to track the vehicle using the ID of the sensor or using the sensor to overflow the vehicle systems control module. Both of those issues appear to be neatly put to rest in the article.

I suppose it’s possible that  as we see a future with internet connectivity for even your kitchen appliances,  the old school ‘Is your refrigerator running? Bette ...[more]

RMA Sponsored Tire Safety Week 2010

June 11th, 2010

The Rubber Manufacturers Association sponsored the 9th annual Tire Safety Week June 6th - 12th, 2010. Tire safety and proper maintenance go hand in hand and provides the added benefit of extending the useful life of your tires. Who ever said safety didn’t pay? The major component of tire maintenance and safety is proper inflation. Proper inflation shapes the body of the tire and influences the amount of tread contacting the road and heat dissipation properties. The correct inflation pressure is specific to the vehicle and can be found on the placard on the inside of the drivers side door on your car. We also have a handy tool on our home page to help you find out the correct air pressure for your vehicle.
Rotation and alignment are useful for extending wear as well. We recommend roating your tires every 5 thousand miles following the rotation pattern suggested in the owners manual for your vehicle. Regular rotation also allows the technician an oppor ...[more]
