Michelin has added a new tire to its truck and SUV lineup, the LTX M/S2. The LTX M/S2 is an updated version of Michelin’s popular LTX M/S, which was introduced in 1992.

The LTX M/S2 is a no compromise tire engineered to deliver long tread life without sacrificing all season security. The LTX M/S2 combines on-road comfort and durability with wet and snow performance.

The LTX M/S2 features Michelin’s latest tire technology. According to Michelin, the LTX M/S2 features 3D Active Sipes that offer 8% more biting edges than the original LTX M/S. The additional biting edges allow the tread blocks to lock together and preserve rigidity in the blocks, leading to better snow traction. With less tread block bending under torque, the tire uses less energy, earning it a Green X designation for its improved fuel efficiency.

Michelin also stated the LTX M/S2’s new silica tread compound will improve wet performance and water evacuation and reduce stopping distance. The M/S2 contains Michelin’s Comfort Control Technology to reduce vibrations and road noise. It also uses Advanced MaxTouch construction, which creates a unique contact patch shape that evenly distributes the forces of acceleration, braking and cornering to improve tire life. The M/S2 is constructed with three steel-belts for durability and strength to handle loads up to 13,500 lbs.

The LTX M/S2 will be released in 38 P-metric and LT sizes by March 2010. The rim diameters range from 15 to 20 inches and the tire will carry a 70,000 mile limited warranty.
